Filled with special effects and entertertainment as mindless as you want it to be. I saw it on DVD — meaning it was 2D. From other reviews I have read, it is much better in 3D. Nevertheless, it was very entertaining, and the story of Beowulf is a classic and oft-retold tale of monster fighting, self realization, and redemtion. Speaking of monsters – Grendel is not what you’d expect, and he turns out to be twisted, tortured creature that you almost feel sad about. And his mom? Well, let me say that sight Angelina Jolie in this movie never looked better :) Anthony Hopkins also stands out in this movie as the king who isn’t as dumb as he seems at first. Anyway, enjoy – the movie is fun!
This is a movie that needs to be seen in 3D. Amazingly, here in Silicon Valley it wasn’t available in 3D, even at the Century 21, the biggest theatre in town. Foolishly I assumed that they must be showing it in 3D, only to be disappointed once the show started.
So I saw spears directed out at the audience, and people falling on pointy spires, but it was all flat. So I’m holding off reviewing it because I’m sure it is much better when not flat.
