One of the most unnerving viewing experiances ever, Ghosts … of the Civil Dead is the polar opposite of The Shawshank Redemption’s message of hope and goodness in humanity even thought their both prison flims. I’ve been described as liking director John Hillcoat’s third film The Proposition enough for two people (and I probably do to be honest, its awesome), and I think Ghosts is even better. This might be hard to track down but so very very worth it.
All the actors are perfect for thier roles.
The film builds into a horrid depressing rythm and is just a masterclass in directing and editing.
Not a blood bath, but the atmosphere combined with some strong violence make this a very edgey film.
The completely naturalness of it just makes it even better.
