A brilliant family comedy that almost defies description… At it’s heart, Son Of Rambow is about the creative renaissance of a young, sheltered, British kid after watching the movie First Blood. After being thrown in with a duplicitous, delinquent schoolmate, they decide to film the sequel: Son Of Rambow, and end up growing up along the way… Ok, so that sounds really cheesy, and it is at times, but it’s also original, emotional and really, really funny. I recommend this movie to everyone.
Not a bad thing to say about anyone in this film. Some of the best acting I’ve ever seen from children.
The main character is a compulsive artist, scribbling murals his schoolbooks and on the walls of a toilet stall. The design of these drawings was amazing, and were used in some animated sequences really well. (The main textbook that he’s scribbled in is one of the coolest props I’ve ever seen…)
Mostly cartoony violence, a bit of swearing, and some kids making out. Nothing big.
This is how I always dreamed kid society worked. I was never privy to it, but I still believe it to be true… Some of the stunts were clearly CG’d, but the situations were goofy enough that it wasn’t distracting
