A good action movie, but disappointing in many ways. While the story is no more unbelievable than most other superhero/impossibly-awesome-abilities movies, this one lacked … something. I’m not even sure why, but I left feeling like I hadn’t really seen a movie, but just a bunch of action sequences barely held together by a flimsy story. And could the ending be any more cliche or cop-out-ish?
The main male character does quite well with the role he’s given, and quite convincingly carries out his transformation from bored-with-life-9-to-5er into badass assassin. This is the first movie where I’ve really found Jolie to be the sex-symbol everyone’s been saying she is; however, I thought she was much more action-y and badass in “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Freeman is so cliche in this movie that it almost makes me sick … can he PLEASE be given a role soon that casts him as something other than the mastermind or behind-the-scenes controller … PLEASE.
A movie about a natural-born assassin who can bend bullets’ trajectories, and a loom that fortells the future? Pretty damn supernatural.
Terrific review Spaceghost! I was just polishing up my draft when yours came through. Now I think I need to polish mine a little more, so look for it tomorrow.
