Overall this was a pretty decent flick. It’s not as good as the other 2 for sure, but its still enjoyable. By the third film, the setup is not as original and there are some laughs that just don’t hit as hard as a result. Yeah, we’ve got a chinese dude and a loud black dude working together and its awkward. We got that much, so lets move on to new stuff. At the same time, though, it is a movie very aware of itself. Case in point is where the duo have the expected fight (more prominently seen in Shanghi Noon and Knights) and split for a time. During that time, they start to see things – very racially steriotyped things – that make them miss the other. It ends with Carter ordering Mu shu take out and Lee ordering fried chicken from room service. Funny stuff. Overall it was decent. The best way I can put it is that if I was flicking through channels and saw this movie on, I’d probably keep it on and watch for a bit. You won’t necessarily seek it out, but you won’t avoid it either.
I will forever love Jackie Chan. Chris Tucker is not so funny anymore, but he still has a moment or two.
Same old same old. I expect a bit more from Ratner. This felt more like an obligation rather than trying to do something really original. The care chase was cool, but that’s about it.
I think this one has a bit more sexual stuff in it than the other two. Its a little bit dirtier, but not too different otherwise. Fights galore, but nothing real violent.
Lots of real fighting and great stunts, but that’s not how fights really happen. They are not that pretty and props aren’t that conveniently set up. Fun to watch, but if you think a fight is ever going to happen that way in real life then you need to get out of the house a little bit more. I think the fight at the top of the Eiffel Tower was a bit over top – especially the descent to the bottom – even for a Rush Hour film.
