this is the story of speed racer, an 18 yr old boy who, during even his most normal times of the day, always thinks about racing. young speed had a hero of course, his brother rex, he’s always going to the track to race with his brother until one day an unexpected turn of events occured. now 18 yrs old, all speed wants now is to race in the crucible. a rally race that causes even the best of the best to meet their makers. but when the owner, Mr Royal of royal industries comes around to give speed an offer he couldn’t refuse, speed had to and went to the race with the help of racer x, the best known racer in the industry. now all speed has to do is win the crucible to help his family keep the name racer in the profession. with the help of his brother spritle, a monkey named chim chim and mom and pops racer, this family will pull together and make racing history, if it’s the last thing they do.
the performance in this film is nothing short of amazing. the actors took words in the past and brought it back with a new twist. kids getting into trouble, young love, a monkey and boy playing in the livingroom pretending they are cartoon fighters, I mean who doesn’t do that in real life? (except for the monkey, lol)
emile hirsh (speed racer)- he brings passion of the sport to life. He shows how real someones dreams can become.
christina ricci (trixie)- she really protrays a girl in love with speed and shows how enthusiastic someone can be about having a boyfriend so passionate about something. she really shows concern and support during the entire film.
john goodman (pops racer)- he is the doting father and husband. he shows how he can run a race name and take care of his family the best he knows how. he also protrays the overprotecting father that learns from his past mistakes and comes back to make things right.
susanne sarandon (mom racer)- she is the supporting mother, she shows how proud she is with her son and stands behind him all of the way. she really shows that with her actions as well as her words.
the filmotography was amazing. when the actor was appearing to have tunnel vision or a situation became intense, you felt it, and saw it. the colors, the sound, the design and the overall vision of the movie was protrayed as it should have been, a cartoon, a comic book brought to life.
this movie brought you to the edge of your seat. you felt every bit of excitement and adenalin that the characters were shooting at you. this movie will make you pay so much attention to detail and it will make you feel every bit of aww and amazement that a race, that a movie should.
the idea of the story was definatly pretty realistic, but the film itself was boarderline extrodinary. you try racing in thoughs types of tracks and terrain. lol, I know no one would last!
Regarding Wick’s Review
Man, I’m surprised how many people enjoyed Speed Racer. For a while, I thought I was the only one. I enjoyed because it reminded me not only of the classic anime it was based on, but because it was sorta like Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids movies, which I would watch all the time.
I thought movie was not of the quality that all the hype and advertising it got . expected more and got less. the visual effects is all that it had going for it. Its a very good thing that I didnt have to pay to see this one . would have wanted my money back. Even the acting was of low quality. my thoughts; poor excuse for a movie
