I was so surprised by how much I liked this movie. Don’t get me wrong, I always enjoy Pixar’s stuff. Even if its not the best movie in the world, there is always something fun that I can find to carry myself through. WALL E was damn near perfect. Most of the movie has zero dialogue. It comes down to WALL E saying his own name or EVE and that’s about it. What is so amazing about this movie is the acting. I know that sounds weird, but its the only way I can describe it. Its the acting of the little animated characters that will captivate you. The mannerisms that are built into these little robots are perfect and even though they may only say one or two words in many different tones, you know at all times what they are feeling. Something of note is that this is also done without faces. We, as humans, relate to the face. We relate to emotion in the face. A large part of what we experience is through looking at other peoples faces. WALL E doesn’t have a face. He has two eye shaped things that move, but that’s it. Everything is done through tone of voice and mannerisms. When you actually pay attention to those things, this movie will blow you away.
Overall it is a fantastic love story between WALL E and EVE. WALL E is very much the everyman. The beat up old clunker. EVE is the pretty girl that comes in out of nowhere to steal his heart. She seems cold at first, but when someone is as genuine as WALL E, you can’t ignore him forever. There are a few missteps in the movie (having real video of humans, then animated humans is a bit jarring) and the social ideas are noble, but a bit out of place. However, the good far outweighs the bad and its a trip well spent.
The animators made this movie fantastic. No dialogue, no facial expressions, but more genuine emotion than you’ll get from about 90% of the romance movies out there. Plus its funny and beautiful to watch.
Beautiful film. Fantastic colors and music. Very well done.
None whatsoever. There are some explosions that if played really loud could startle kids, but thats it.
It tries very hard to base itself in reality. The ideas are very real, but everything else is not. The movie takes place obviously in the future, so we can suspend belief to enjoy, but this is very much fantasy film.
