A very funny crime-action-thriller that puts together an unlikely enseble of characters including a private eye, a thief posing as an actor, and a struggling actress as a result of a murder mystery. The plot, action, and witty dialog move very quickly in this movie, which leans towards the dark comedy style. Very enjoyable!
This movie heralds a great trio of Robert Downey Jr (I guess this movie marked his return from his hiatus), Val Kilmer, and Michelle Monaghan. Downey and Kilmer perform as sort of an odd-couple constantly showering us with short, witty, sarcastic humor — and Monaghan is quickly thrown in the the fray in the same sort of way. The trio works remarkably well together — it almost makes you wish some sort of TV series would come out of this. Corbin Bernsen makes a great fourth as a bad guy, and all of the other acting was great.
You may find yourself getting lost at times as things move along extremely quickly. You also have to appreciate dark/sarcastic humor for the movie’s full effect — which requires you to not only stay on top of the non-stop action, but the banter and dialog between the funny cast of characters. I thought the blend of action/suspense and comedy was priceless.
Yeah, I think I’m an outlier in that it didn’t work for me. You should review it to counteract my score.
