Zak Efron and Matthew Perry star in this cute movie about what a guy does when his life isn’t going the way he wants it to and he has a unique chance to change things. A good blend of drama, humor, and a story that isn’t preachy but still makes you think. Overall target is tweens, but it is definitely enjoyable for the whole family.
Zak Efron merely needs to smile and your tween girls will swoon. Not much else necessary from him on the acting front, but he does a very decent job. Matthew Perry relies on his basic formula established back in his “Friends” days with his own brand of nice guy humor. My favorite was the supporting actors Thomas Lenon – with his nerdy but rich best friend character Ned — lots of laughs there! He made a nice pairing with Michelle Trachtenberg (of “Office” fame) as principal Maggie.
This film is mostly a study of characters from a dramatic and humorous perspective — wrapped around a good old fashioned story with a message. Although formulaic, the movie delivers solid entertainment in a straight forward setting.
