A lot of fun for those of you who like a little military bravado from time to time. A young but all star cast show you what happens when the sometimes misguided loyalties of military school students meet a reality just a bit out of their control. The movie is entertaining, but is just short of something that is really gripping or to be taken seriously.
Loved the cast — but they clearly most of them were on the front-side of the maturation curve that takes them to where they are today. Tom Cruise was already his brash self, Sean Penn did a marvelous job of eager sidekick, and George C Scott was in his element as a reprise of his old Patton role. Timothy Hutton gets the biggest nod as the serious cadet leader. Wish I saw more of Ronny Cox — who’s role didn’t start until near the end of the move.
Not bad — but a little too campy for a movie that was trying to be taken seriously.
