Sometimes a simple approach is best, and “Paranormal Activity” proves it. This movie gets us all in touch with those scary times all of us have experienced when things go bump in the night. Never having to result to gore, or that cheesiness that most of us have come to expect in popular teen horror films, PA instead uses the most basic approach necessary to bring out our innate fight or flight reaction. Scary stuff indeed!
Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat are decent enough. You never feel like they are going through memorized scripts or anything, and the drama was never overdone.
Owen Peli creates a film in the “Blair Witch Project†style – nothing but a basic HD camera. Unlike BWP, not even freaky night-vision effects are relied on. There is night time film, and it has the desired effect, but it comes across as something you or I could have filmed – which has more effect. The film gets off to a slow start, but builds to a crescendo of activity at the end that never lets up.

Regarding Demona’s Review
Great review, Demona. I’m still shaky about seeing this. I’m hearing lots of mixed feelings. But this review makes me wanna see it.
