In 1984, Wes Craven made the definitive 80’s slasher flick. It redefined horror, launched the career of a young Johnny Depp, and introduced audiences to one of the most memorable villains of all time. Before seeing this movie, most people felt safe after they turned the lights out and let their dreams take over. And thats where ’ol Frederick comes in!! Freddy Krueger is one the most well thought out slasher villains ever. He made people stat awake nights after watching this film.
The story centers on a group of friends. One of them is murdered in her sleep and soon the kids start to have the same nightmare as one another. In each dream, there’s a man in a brown fedora and a striped sweater with razer fingers and a burnt complexion. He’s a child murderer named Freddy Krueger who was burnt alive by the vengeful parents of Springwood. He soon came back in a demonic, razor clawed persona.
This is one of the scariest films of all time and the fact they’re remaking this just grinds my gears. And even though the remake is a couple months away, I’m just gonna tell you right now: Save your time, watch the original.
They could not have gotten a better actor than Robert Englund to play Freddy. He is Freddy the way Arnold Schwarzeneger is the Terminator or the way Anthony Hopkins is Hannibal Lecter. The teen actors are very talented considering how young they were at the time. I mostly enjoyed Heather Langekamp’s performance as our resident heroine Nancy.
