After I saw “The Road”, I didn’t think any other film this year would be able to top my appreciation for one little film. Well, surprisingly, there was. “Up in the Air” is my favorite movie of 2009.
George Clooney plays a smug douchey character named Ryan Bingham. He’s one of the saddest, loneliest guys on the entire planet. But does he care? No. His job is to fire people and he loves traveling to different locations and public speaking about isolation.During his travels, he meets Alex(Vera Farmiga), who is basically a female version of him. He also takes a young girl named Natalie under his wing and teaches her his methods of life.
“Up in the Air” is a sweet but not too sentimental comedy about the hard facts of life and is a film that best defies modern times.
While George Clooney doesn’t deliver his greatest performance ever, he definitly delivered a good one. He played the character of Ryan Bingham perfectly. As for Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick, both of these lovely ladies delivered exceptional performances.
The dialogue is very rich and doesn’t feel forced. It’s also very, very, and I mean VERY funny. Jason Reitman(of “Juno” fame) knows how to direct an excellent cast.
While there is some brief nudity in this film, there are no sex scenes. Sex is only implied.
Regarding Wick’s Review
Will it sweep? I doubt it. Still, it should be a legitimate Best Picture candidate.
Regarding Wick’s Review
Excellent review, Wick.
I’ve heard so many good things its hard to keep track! Do you believe this is the movie that’ll sweep the Oscars? Perhaps its good enough to nab itself a best picture statue?
