Like ‘Perfect Blue’, Paprika redefines the world of anime by not using cheesy, fantasy-like elements. Instead Paprika plays out like any usual movie would… except for the fact that it has some of the most amazing and beautiful visuals that blow away any usual movie. Yes, the plot is a bit strange and the first half of the movie is typical Japan, but if you can get past that, it’s one hell of a movie.
Both original Japanese track and English dub sound great.
The two things I really want to talk about here are the music and visuals. The sountrack is absolutely spectacular, and in some scenes (the parade for example) it fits so INCREDIBLY perfect with the visuals. As for the visuals… just stunning. The entire movie is dream-like which lets the director put in amazing elements.
This movie is rated R, but you only see partial female nudity for about 10 seconds… damn you, MPAA. Somebody jumps out a building but you never see or hear him hit the ground
