BrianSez's Review

Summary - Very Good 3.5

Edgar Wright produces a perfect movie for Michael Cera and a refreshingly unique comedy for the rest of us. Life set to a video game – a style that is likely to appeal more to the younger set adds a sarcastic and funny undertone to the whole film. Michael, ever the dweeby charmer , to our delight takes on superpowers as he attempts to defeat the seven evil exes of his latest love interest. The cast of characters that surrounds him, from his gay roommate, to his high-school “fake girlfriend”, to the piercing personality of his drummer and ex girlfriend are a perfect complement to this LOL generating film.

Acting - Great 4.0

Michael Cera reaches an elevated form of himself – any traces of being more subtle are removed, except in Scott Pilgrim, Michael gets to outwardly play the woman getting hero – perfect.

Film - Great 4.0

The superpower video game infusion was a remarkably smart and unique approach. Not everyone will enjoy it, but for me – it kept the film from becoming routine; Just when you begin to settle in to some form of normalcy, something will happen out of the blue to throw you and the audience for a loop. The oddities of the film also serve as an excellent venue to slip in lots of sarcasm and LOL moments.
