Slow start, but strong finish. I must admit that as I watched the early part of the film I thought to myself that it was going to be tedious as it wandered its way through South African history. Morgan Freeman as Nandela was great – but it was just hard to connect at enough of a level to be engrossed in the story. However, once the film gelled around Nelson’s brilliant “unite through rugby†strategy, things became less cerebral, and of course, that meant I could enjoy the movie much more! :-) In the end, it was very well done.
Matt Damon stuggled with the South African accent, but otherwise was a great in the role as the insightful rugby captain. Morgan Freeman was a shoe-in for the wise Nelson Mandela.
Eastwood did a good job, but nothing in particular stood out to make the film a great one. I think the movie was trying to accomplish too much.
