Woody Allen tells a tale of a tangled web of Spanish passion and American susceptibilities. Only in a movie by Woody does all of the swirling romantic energy and very subtle humor this make sense and flow together naturally. Although I watched this alone, this would make a great date movie as the romance and passion is not only embodied in the characters, but in the surroundings. A very good movie that highlights some wonderful e acting and directing talent.
Javier Bardem is the central character that glues the swirling maelstrom of women in his life. Scarlett Johansson, who plays the sexually adventurous visitor is completely eclipsed by the whirlwind Maria played by Penelope Cruz. Penelope over-powers everyone else when she comes on the scene – and is a perfect match for Javier. Rebecca Hall is a good straight-gal side-kick who also succumbs to the romantic powers of Javier.
What can I say? It’s Woody Allen. Your expectations should be high, and they will be met.
