“Conquistadores of the useless†– that is one quote from the movie that captures a tongue in cheek perspective on what this movie is all about. In 180, you follow the adventures of Jeff Johnson, as he tries to re-trace a journey of a group of men from California to Patagonia and Corcovado Chile. The movie is intriguing as you get swept up in the hippie-esque journey to Easter Island and then Chile. Great story, great scenery, and a great escape for a few hours. A warning for Republicans: be prepared for the conversationalist messages throughout the film.
It’s neat to know that guys like this are around. Surfer/Climber/Sailor dudes just up for any adventure. At one with the world and nature. Many of us can’t identify with that, but watching it is very cool.
A well done movie, fantastic filming of some incredible places. As for my nit-picks: many reviewers loved the soundtrack – but I found it overbearing. It also went on a bit too long after what I thought was the climax, and instead spent too much time pushing the conservationist agenda – a worthy cause, but it is a bit of a turn off when it is pushed so much.
