A pretty decent crime thriller about Richard Gaddis (John C. Reilly), a con man who takes a younger swindler named Rodrigo (Diego Luna) in as his partner for the day. Gaddis shows Luna some of his tricks, including confidence scams, and hustling people out of money. But things get interesting when he plans to sell a rare counterfeit piece of currency to a wealthy business tycoon. All along, Rodrigo must try to learn from Gaddis and not be swindled himself.
The movie does a decent job of creating plot twists, and by the end we never know who to believe and what to trust. Reilly does a nice job of playing the mastermind, and Luna is decent as his new found sidekick.
As with most con game films, you really have to pay attention to the story to fully appreciate all the twists and turns. Maggie Gyllenhaal adds a very nice performance as Gaddis’ sister.
On the downside, the movie did become somewhat confusing in spots, but evetually everything made sense. If you watch it, just give it time to develop.
A good film that’s worth a view.
