BigdaddyDave's Review

Summary - Very Good 3.5

A frightening documentary about a group of Bakersfield, California parents who were wrongly imprisoned for child pornography and molestation charges after investigators used leading questions to interrogate the parent’s own children. Led by an overzealous “Tough on Crime” district attorney, many parents were falsely accused and convicted, spending up to 20 years in prison.

The devastating effects on these parents is heart wrenching. In depth interviews with both the parents and the children paint a picture of a judicial system that was intent on getting convictions, even if they weren’t grounded in reality. In the end we see children who suffer as much as their parents did, living with the guilt of having sent their folks away for crimes they didn’t commit.

This was a powerful documentary that I would suggest, especially for those interested in social justice issues.
