A low budget film about a group of Allied soldiers who must survive a massacre and a daring escape before sneaking past German troops to deliver important information about an upcoming attack. Based on a true story, the film is a hodgepodge of war clichés and stereotypes, punctuated by standard dialogue we’ve heard in other movies. The movie tries to be more moving than it really is.
The actual war scenes are few and far between, as most of the movie features a cast of relatively unknown soldiers plodding through the woods, and hiding from the enemy. The fear of being caught creates a dramatic tension throughout. Sadly, with the general lack of fighting, the movie relies on its script and dialogue, which is somewhat predictable.
Passable entertainment, but not on the same level as “Saving Private Ryan”.
An interesting collection of lesser-known actors does a fine job, although none of them were truly memorable.
