Denzel Washington plays Det. Alonzo Harris Training Day a cop gone bad, leading new partner Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) into temptation, drugs, money, and murder.
Hoyt is excited to become the newest member of the narc unit, but is quickly thrown for a loop when he realize’s how far Harris has immersed himself into the business. Harris is evil with a badge, and has become a rougue warrior, making his own rules and playing the game for his own benefit.
This was a great movie with plenty of action, and some true suspenseful scenes. The only drawback I had with the film was sheer amount of action and mischief that Hoyt is subjected to in one day. The volume of action the two engage in was a bit unrealistic for me. This is not to say there aren’t bad cops, just not those who engage in quite as much tomfoolery on a daily basis.
But, Washington’s performance is great, and certainly worthy of it’s recognition by the Academy.
Speaking of bad cops, I just saw Crash the other day and I thought it was phenomenal. I may have to review it.
Yeah, if you like movies about cops gone bad, this one pegs the meter.
Regarding Wick’s Review
Hm, I actually saw a bit of Training Day on HBO the other day and thought “This looks interesting”. But now that I’ve read your review, Wick, I really wanna see it.
