Summary - Great 4.0

George C Scott’s portrayal of one of the modern day military’s most famous icons was a joy to watch. A man stuck in the world of ancient Romans, and who believed he was re-incarnated at that time lived in his own world – much to the consternation of greats like Eisenhower and Bradley who backed him up at times that most others wouldn’t. His bravado and “never dig in” policies produced great results in WWII, from North Africa, to Sicily, and eventually via a supporting role in Europe. That in of itself was an engaging history to re-live, but in the end, his strikingly eclectic and stubborn leadership style made this film great.

Acting - Really Great 4.5

I’ll bet that most people think Patton is George C Scott. I’ve witnessed some old black-and-white news reels of Patton himself, and based upon that limited exposure, I’m betting that George got it perfectly.

Film - Great 4.0

The movie is primarily about the man, but has sufficient focus on the war itself to make sure there was always the proper context to the sometimes outlandish antics of a great man.

Edge - Risqué 1.6

Reality - Glib 1.3
