Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl star in the lackluster film Killers, about a young wife who discovers her husband is a former government agent. With a hefty bounty on their heads, the couple must elude coworkers and neighbors who are out to “eliminate” them.
Kutcher is his usual smarmy self, trying to portray a professional agent who is a cross between James Bond and Jason Bourne, yet coming across more like Austin Powers. His goofy attitude detracts from his ability to be taken as a serious action star. In addition, the unfortunate scene where he is photographing a helicopter seemed too close to product placement for his Nikon sponsor for my liking.
The story had promise, but turned into a non-stop collage of car chases and dangerous fights. Confused about whether it should be an action or comedy, it fails at both.. There is little chemistry between the two lead stars, and in spite of Heigl’s decent acting, the movie gets too stuck in a rut to be enjoyable.
True Lies had a similar premise and was far more enoyable for my liking.
Regarding BigdaddyDave’s Review
Good warning, BigD. I admit to being an Ashton fan, so had reasonable hopes for this. It seemed like a sillier Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
