The movie centers around young Mattew Modine as Pvt. Joker. Not especially notable, but solid acting. My real kudos go to Vincent D’onofrio – crazy eyed and not too swift Pvt Pyle, one of the clear early stars with his crazed tailspin. And of course, there is R Lee Ermey the famous gunnery sergeant Hartman. Another of the true stars of the film. Classic lines that one can hardly forget, too numerous to mention here.

Kubrik has an excellent use of imagery,humor, and even music to convey what it might be like at war-time. However, rather than be completely realistic, drama and surrealism are used for maximum impact.
