In this case, the movie’s title represents fairly well the content: A kind of a funny movie — but in this case it isn’t a negative. Rather, a great blend of humor with character drama: Take a teenager who over-dramatizes his depression, ends up in a mental hospital for a week, and helps himself and others in the process. The seriousness is ever-present as you hear the stories behind the characters, but the humor is also ever-present, as the wackiness of the characters is used as fodder for some funny times. Throw in a little romance, and you have a well rounded and enjoyable film.
Keir Gilchrist, Zach Galifianakis and Emma Roberts are all really great. Keir with his muted-sarcasm straight-boy role. Zach shows us once again how funny being just a little silly can be – but in this movie he shows more range with some seriousness. Emma Roberts has a less impressive role, but pairs well with Keir. Some other notables: Viola Davis ad Doc, Jim Gaffigan as dad, Lauren Graham as mom, and Jeremy Davies as Smitty.
Great blend of humor and drama pulled off by a great cast. My only complaint about the production was it had a made-for-TV feel, similar to the shooting style of the sitcom “Scrubsâ€.
They’d never put such a normal person in a mental hospital – but what the heck: It’s Hollywood

Looks worth a view Bri. I was intrigued by its trailers last year. Happy to see the real thing fulfills the tease.
