So the birth and rise of the great Caesar and his brood is revealed! Finally a great prequel to the famous Planet of the Apes series that the boomers grew up with! I think half the excitement was this homage to the old-school. Only few films have you rooting for the bad guys – helped along by a*hole treatment by dumb-asses – but really you are rooting for their eventual take-over and hoping the movies get re-made. Great action and desired reaction to some very angry apes swinging around town and creating havoc… preparing for the eventual putting of humans in their place and creating a great series. Hail Caesar – I’m ready for more!
James Franco holds his own, but Caesar out does him in the end. John Lithgow in an unsettling role – but a good job. Sorry, but Frieda Pinto will be forgotten very soon. Brian Cox – great as the corrupt ape-keeper. We’ll probably see more of unknown David Oyelowo, and we should have seen more of sidekick Tyler Labine – who could be Jack Black’s double.
Appealing to the boomers and paying homage to their adolescent entertainment is the biggest coup. Real aficionados will pick up on the references (Caesar on a horse, the astronaut launch, glimpse of Ophelia, very angry gorillas and more) , but adding modern effects and a higher level of sci-fi underpinnings could give a revival some staying power.
Regarding modern marvel’s Review
“To compliment andy serkis on his work as caesar is going to be an understatement no matter how i try; lets simply say that its a revelation and the man deserves every accolade he earned or will earn.” Here, here! Best actor in the movie.

Regarding izzio’s Review
“I pray the sequel won’t be called something ridiculous like Return of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” :-]
I also liked “10 points from Slytherin.” Funny.
