Eh well – I guess you could say this Movie 2.0 Mashup was entertaining for its novelty but looking at its components: western – not that great, sci-fi – not that great, you end up with something that didn’t use the combination to make the sum greater than its parts. That’s too bad, because it had potential. A typical western story, with some great western acting talent with decent sci-fi ish creatures. In looking at the two components, I actually favored the western – had grit, gals, and action. The sci-fi part detracted from that. See this if you are bored, curious, or have young boys who will likely love it.
Daniel Craig, as it turns out, makes a great gunslinger. And of course, a major hat-tip goes to Harrison Ford. Olivia Wilde is great eye-candy, but not so memorable for her acting – but maybe I can’t really fault her – the writers didn’t give her much to work with.
Decent special effects and the core of a good film – just poor execution on the writing front, causing a domino effect for everything else.
