The Sex and the City movie. The show I adore, ruined by what could have been a great movie. The first hour of this movie is perfect. We get hilarious one-liners from Samantha, and some drama stirring up between Big and Carrie. But as the movie goes on, with it’s 2 and a half hour run time, it drags on and on until I feel like I’m getting a brain tumor from how boring it gets. Let me say this: a movie like this does not need more than 2 hours. Again, the first hour is great, but most of the rest consists of Carrie pondering profound thoughts like “I hate Big”. “Big did something wrong”. “Big was mean”. Then another headache- I mean character is introduced: Carrie’s assistant. All that happens with her is boyfriend issues. But what’s so bad about all this? Isn’t this what the show consists of usually? Not at all. The show, while mostly always having to do with complaining about guys, has witty and wonderful humor that keeps the show alive. This feels slow, and even depressing. That’s not very in the spirit of Sex and the City. I was very excited to see this movie, and I even bought it on blu-ray, but when I finally watched it, my disappointment grew and grew as each scene dragged on. The reason I’m not giving this only 1 star is because the first hour, again, is great. There’s laugh out loud humor and fun. Too bad the movie couldn’t hold that level of humor up, or it would have been better. I’ll probably see the second one, but I don’t have high expectations. Oh, and one more thing, I have to say, the intro to the movie where Carrie brought the audience up to date with all of the characters was perfectly executed and even gave me chills.
It’s just the classic Sex and the City acting. I’m counting all four of the girls as the female stars this time.
Pretty good writing at first. I will always love the Sex and the City music.
