Kirk Douglass pilots his 1980’s aircraft carrier through a time-warp straight back to 1941 — just before the Japanese were to attack Pearl Harbor. Ok, the story is kind of cheesy, but the non-stop footage of planes leaving the carrier’s deck and watching the US Navy in action was kind of cool. As with any good time-travel story, contemplating paradox is par for the course. Will the great Captain Douglass do the right thing? Bottom line, watch this if you are a military buff, but you might want to skip it if you are looking for anything deep.
Kirk Douglass does is usual shtick as a dramatic leader. Martin Sheen is more of a side-kick with a cool understated role. Katherine Ross, herself a Navy brat, has a decent short role with James Farrentino and Charles Durning – a WWII veteran himself.
The sci-fi doesn’t live up to even 1980’s standards, but the military accouterments were fun to watch. Good actors, but not much to work with.
Regarding BrianSez’s Review
Hey, I took this movie in twice one super hot afternoon in Charleston, SC when it came out. The second time was as much for the AC as the aircraft carriers, though those were pretty cool too.
Solid review, BTW.
Excellent Netflix Watch Now pick.
