No drug comes without its downsides. This oft taught lesson comes via a new drug that fully unlocks one’s potential. Once Bradley Cooper gets his taste, he’ll do nearly anything to keep it coming. Soon others want the benefits as well, and the twists ensue. The premise is great, the acting decent, and the suspense and drama won’t disappoint.
Bradley Cooper’s got the stuff for this type of action and drama. He’s actually believable at times. Robert DeNiro does a great shtick as the elder statesman of unfair advantages. Abby Cornish was pretty, but as Wick pointed out, doesn’t add much. My pick? Andrew Howard as the gritty Russian mobster who can’t let go of too good of a thing.
An old formula delivered with a new drug. Not groundbreaking, but solid entertainment.
Regarding modern marvel’s Review
“Any time Bradley Cooper’s not on screen, the movie misses a step.” Good observation.
I’d have to give the nod to Inception, with its impressive special effects and far more cerebral plot.
I suppose it would depend on your taste in movies, or drugs for that matter. Limitless features a drug that closely resembles speed, with far less hallucinatory effects than in Inception, which probably could be compared to LSD. Inception dealt more with escaping from reality to dreams, whereas Limitless deals more with reaching a higher potential while still being conscious.
From a reality standpoint, I think we would be far more likely to see the drug from Limitless than the ones from Inception. But, at the end of the day, I’ll pick Inception as the better movie.
