Every family has the one person who stands out from the rest, and is, well………different.
In Our Idiot Brother, three grown sisters and their mother struggle to acclimate to the arrival of Ned (Paul Rudd), a free-sprited idealist who believes in the goodness of people, trusting in others, honesty, and the enjoyment of pot. Ned’s simple honesty, clashes with the high-strung lives of his sisters, who are bound to daily issues and dramas that are accentuated by the very opposite characteristics of Ned. Lying, cheating, deception, gossip, and other unenviable traits have led each of the sisters into quagmires, and Ned’s open-naturedness demands each one be addressed.
There-in lies the rub. While Ned is chastised, and referred to by the film’s title, in reality his moral compass and value as a person far outweighs those who label him the “idiot”. An interesting twist on the premise of the film that turns this delightful comedy into a great story of morality as well.

“Ironically, Ned is never seen under the influence of drugs.” Good catch.

“Some slapstick may have been in order.” Good observation.
