Geek's Review

Summary - Very Good 3.5

Having seen only RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYSPE (2004), I fear I can’t comment on the series as a whole, but I can say that EXTINCTION was a good movie. It exceeded my expectations (which, granted, weren’t very high) and was a very entertaining, and simultaneously engaging movie. The action was above adequate, the direction, style, acting, all very good. And although the ending frusterated me with the potential for a fourth installment, I find myself excited to see it.

Acting - Very Good 3.5

It’s RESIDENT EVIL, not 3:10 TO YUMA; thus, the performance ‘quality’ is judged differently here.

Male Stars - Great 4.0

The only male star I recognized was Oded Fehr, due mainly because of his work in THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY RETURNS. Here, he is still fantastic.

Female Stars - Really Great 4.5

Milla Jovovich shines once again! Seriously, she makes this series work. Another astounding performance.

Female Costars - OK 2.5

Ali Larter. Can anyone tell me why she was cast? Or hell, why her character is even present?

Male Costars - Very Good 3.5

Film - Very Good 3.5

Color me surprised, RESIDENT EVIL EXTINCTION has a high production quality. If it wasn’t for the garbage-bag way it was treated by the studios, I’d say this flick is as good as a summer blockbuster. ‘Course, it’d had to be ’bout another hour and a half longer to qualify…

Direction - Very Good 3.5

Dialogue - Very Good 3.5

Nothing corny, nothing unbelieveable, nothing really out of place or causing a slap-on-the-head 'Oh, my God! Did they really just say that?' moment. So, overall, very good.

Music - Very Good 3.5

Unfortunately, I didn't find myself drawn to the movie's score - which, typically - is a sign that it was nothing of consequence.

Visuals - Really Great 4.5

Seriously, if there's one thing that can't be denied with EXTINCTION, it's that is has some pretty awesome visuals. Most notably, the sequence when Alice - utilizing her 'abilities' - torches a entire flock of birds. Extremely awesome.

Edge - Risqué 2.3

Sex Innocent 1.0

There was none. Implied, but none.

Violence Brutal 3.4

Plenty of violence to go around here, guys. And it does not dissapoint. In one sequence, Milla becomes a one-woman fighting team, and it is oh-so-awesome. Plus, the cliamtic finale kicked some serious ass.

Rudeness Salty 2.5

A few swear words dropped every once and a while, but mainly due to extreme circumstances.

Reality - Supernatural 4.0

Seriously, it’s RESIDENT EVIL. It’s zombies. Person with ‘special abilities’. Dude, reality? Not high on the radar.

Circumstantial - Supernatural 4.0

Biological - Supernatural 4.0

Physical - Supernatural 4.0
