A retiring detective (Jack Nicholson) gets a hunch about a open and shut case, and instead of taking it easy and enjoying life, he foregoes relaxation and pursues his intuition. The Pledge takes us on a tried and true path of good old sleuthing along with a pedigreed cast. Good thing Jack didn’t let sleeping dogs lie, because it made for a darn good movie which will keep you on the edge of your seat with great suspense and mystery.
They really spent a lot of money on this cast with Jack Nicholson, Patricia Clarkson, Benicio Del Toro, Aaron Eckhart, Helen Mirren, Mickey Rourke, Vanessa Redgrave, Tom Noonan, Sam Shepard, Harry Dean Stanton, and others. The star of course was Jack, who pretty much carried it, although Patricia Clarkson and Aaron Eckhart are standouts as well.
Impressive job by Sean Penn. No wonder he attracted all of at A-list talent.
Regarding BrianSez’s Review
I recall liking this movie when it came out Bri. Heavy but really good, with Nicholson giving an admirably downbeat performance.
