This movie, like the series it is a part of, went on for too long. Unfortuantely for the viewing public, quality film parodies are a thing of the past, especially as long as the small group of writers who continute to churn out these films get movie deals. Oddly enough this film is a slight improvement of Scary Movie Two , but collapses into the same pitfalls.
The first film largely parodies slasher films, including Scream, by essentially overplaying their formula. All the while none of the writers seemed to notice the irony that Scream was itself a clever parody of the slasher genre. By the third outting, the series has lost all traces of true parody and has resorted to simple references with potty humor.
Simply referencing a movie and adding fart jokes is not parody. Nor should a movie be called “Scary Movie” when it includes references to films such as The Hulk (which was practically a parody of itself) and 8 Mile, which is probably the film’s weakest moment. Like other films in the series, this movie takes a single joke and pounds it into the ground relentlessly for 20 mins before moving on.
It never tries to be a realistic film, which is appropriate given the films it is based on.
