There is nothing like the emotion behind a good war movie. Put that to use in a good humans vs. alien story, and you have the makings of a great summer blockbuster. Battleship is a worthy blockbuster indeed. The aliens are bad-ass, and the Navy is badder, and you’ll not often have a more fun time rooting for the good guys – and the Mighty Mo! Great action, special effects, and dramatic flair from the cast. A great way to help open up the summer season!
Taylor Kitsch of Friday Night Light’s fame is great at the loser turns around story as he did in the TV show. In Battleship, he takes it up a notch and saves the day.
Alexander Skarsgard is good as the straight-laced older brother that has little patience for is younger sibling.
Liam Neeson is a natural at the Navy Admiral and reluctant Dad
Brooklyn Decker is as hot as always and does a decent job
Rhianna makes a good debut as a tough Navy petty officer
Peter MacNicol in a familiar angry but inept political role
Jesse Plemons – also of Friday Night Lights fame is good with his special brand of goofy humor
I’m not so sure about the connection to the Hasbro game – but who cares. Seeing all that Naval firepower put to use against aliens was rousing experience.
