What a great comeback for this now 10 year old franchise. Picked up just like they never took a break. It almost didn’t matter what the story was – watching the dry humor and alien action was all it took to get right back into the swing of things. This time Agent J has to time-travel in order to prevent his buddy Agent K from getting killed. Tommy Lee and Will Smith are as great as ever, as well as a very good performance from the young agent K (Josh Brolin) as well. Great fun, bad-ass monsters, kick-ass agents, and plenty of LOL.
Will Smith – Just what you’ve come to expect. Nothing more, nothing less
Tommy Lee Jones – Same here – he delivers the goods as always – cheddar on apple pie and all.
Josh Brolin makes a perfect young Tommy Lee – he has the schtick down pat
Emma Thompson – Sort of in the background – but a solid supporting role
Jemaine Clement – I was really impressed with his delivery of the bad guy Boris the Animal – reminded me of Jaws in the Bond series
Nicole Scherzinger – hot as Boris’ girlfriend. Didn’t last too long though.
This movie tows the line, and I think everyone will be glad it did. Why mess with a winning formula? The twists that you’d expect are all there – from the cameos like Nicole Scherzinger and the skewed tribute to Andy Warhol to the great monster show that won’t disappoint. Great stuff.
