Jason Bateman (married guy) and Ryan Reynolds (single guy) get their lives magically switched one drunken night. This is not a innovative story, but it is funny. Ryan Reynolds is one of Hollywoods best straight-guy funny men, and Ryan Reynolds is also top notch when it comes to irreverent personas – so the two are paired up well in this film about what happens when you get to live more than vicariously through the person you are envious of. Its a bit lopsided in that married Jason is more envious of the free wheeling and womanizing life of single Ryan, but of course, there is a moral to this story: appreciate what you have. You will like this film. Plenty of LOL sequences that only this pair could deliver, like Jason trying to fill in for Ryan as a porno star, or Jason teaching his 10 yo daughter to take down the bitch in ballet class. Guys will appreciate plenty of sex, nudity, and foul language. Gals will appreciate its underlying wholesomeness and appreciation of family and relationships. All in all, Change-Up is funny and entertaining, definitely a great date night movie.
Besides Jason and Ryan, there is hot miss Olivia Wilde – Wilde indeed. Sh ends up being not only a perfect fantasy for the contrained Jason Bateman, but she turns in to a genuine good girl. Leslie Mann is great as the harried wife. I’ve always liked her, very funny and a perfect fit for this film. Alan Arkin is almost a cameo – but he is great as Ryan’s dad.
