Summary - Really Great 4.5

What is supposed to be the final act in a trilogy instead feels like a clear opener for more to come! DKR builds upon The Dark Night’s dark side, focusing on complex back-story and comes chock-full of quasi-political statements about society. The build-up to this movie was tremendous, and to be sure it was chock-full of great Bat-style theatrical action that employed really cool gadgets against a formidable bad-guy. However, I found it to be a tad too long, and the complexity behind how and why the bad-boy got to be bad was overdone, and I found myself nostalgic for the good old fashioned motivations of power for the purpose of money themes of Bat-days gone by.

Acting - Very Good 3.5

Christian Bale is a bit too mechanical for my tastes, but it is tolerable when thought of as the strong and silent Batman. Accomplishments alone need to inspire in his case, because the persona didn’t cut it.

Anne Hathaway, on the other hand, is inspiring as Cat Woman. Slinky, sexy, and tough. Nice job.

Tom Hardy does a great job as Batman’s nemesis. He totally reminds me of Anthony Hopkins though. I couldn’t shake the comparisons.

Michael Cane and Morgan Freeman are wonderful supporting cast members in a film like this. They give the crew a solid foundation.

Joseph Gordon Levitt will make a great Robin, assuming we get more of these films where he gets a chance to step up a bit more.

Female Stars - Very Good 3.5

Female Costars - Very Good 3.5

Male Costars - Very Good 3.5

Film - Really Great 4.5

All in all the film was really well done. My biggest complaints are an overly complex bad-guy story and a film that was too long at nearly 3 hours!

I just saw this yesterday as well. Review forthcoming, but I think I’m going with a Silver as well. I think it came down to being overly-long in some parts. Other than that, it was hard to find fault in a tremendously entertaining movie.

Hmm, just returned from DKR thinking I’m gonna settle on Really Great. Silver not Gold. Damn impressive still, Greater than Great, just not Perfect. Can’t crisply state the reasoning yet, but that’ll come.

Well, Wick. I’ve rewatched DKR. Still just as perfect as it was the first time. And as far as Inception Vs. DKR, I personally enjoy DKR more. Inception remains the classic it that it is.

Thank you very much, Wick. That means a lot.

And as far as DKR vs. Inception, I’d have to say I prefer DKR…for now, anyways. I plan on rewatching the movie a few more times in theaters.

    Regarding MJ5K’s Review
Wow. Terrific review MJ. Covers all the bases, takes a stand, is well reasoned and enlightening. I also think your note about the Aurora massacre was very well said.

OK, I’m back in the country and teed up to see Dark Knight Rises this weekend. Looking forward to it all the more given your review.

Final question: Which is Nolan’s greatest accomplishment, Dark Night Rises or Inception?
