BrianSez's Review

Summary - OK 2.5

What would you do if the earth only had 3 weeks left before being destroyed by an asteroid? In the midst of what you would expect many people to do (throw cautions to the wind, behave badly, etc), Steve Carell shows us another side: being kind, reconnecting with others, etc. Paired up with Keira Knightly, the two set out in a pre-apocalyptic adventure. The result is a film that generates lol moments from the bad behavior going on around them (one classic quote from Knightly’s character: “I won’t steal anything if you don’t rape me”), and balances that with a light-handed dramatic character study.

Acting - Good 3.0

There are essentially two Steve Carells: The ‘Dan in Real Life’ Steve, and the ‘Evan Almighty’ Steve (to use two older movies that everyone should know). This definitely falls in to the ‘Dan in Real Life’ category, and indeed Steve showcases his sensitive side.

Keira Knightly – I don’t think the chemistry with Steve was really there, but she does a decent job with pulling off the quirky companion role.

Martin Sheen – not a large role, but always enjoyable.

Melanie Lynskey of 2 and a half Men fame was fun to watch as an exuberant end-of-days partier. Same went for Conie Britton of Friday Night Lights fame.

    Regarding BrianSez’s Review
I love Connie Britton. Not enough to watch her new TV show, but I still love her.
