Whenever you see Paul Rudd, Leslie mann, and Jason Segel in a movie, you know it will be somewhat predictable, but in movies like this, predictability can be good. This is 40 is funny. Not especially so, just pleasingly so. Crass jokes about aging, some well scripted cussing, and other forms of mindless humor keep the chuckles coming. In the end, the movie was a little ho-hum, but worth the rental.
Notealbes:
Paul Rudd – his formula as the plain Joe straight man works – so he sticks to it
Leslie Mann – great as the tell-it-like-it is mom
Jason Segel – I love the roles he gets; this time as the not-quite-gay trainer
John Lithgow – good, but not funny as the estranged father trying to become more involved
Milissa McCarthy – has a real flair for cursing – better cursing than any sailor I’ve seen
Regarding BrianSez’s Review
Helpful review, Bri. I was tempted to see this in the theaters. Now happy I didn’t.
