BrianSez's Review

Summary - Pretty Bad 1.5

Oh that was painful. The Sci-fi formula is tried and true: face the unknown terror in lots of dark corners, way out in space, knowing you have no clue what you are up against because it is alien. Event Horizon has a great story, but totally blew it on execution. Heck, they even had an impressive cast and still blew it with too much cheese. Witness my favorites, like the ship’s captain telling everyone to “Smoke ’em if you got ’em”, or a crew member picking up a kitchen knife to face danger rather than any of the awesome monster fighting gadgets around her. Oh and wait, then there’s loud noises for no reason – just to see if they can make you jump during a tense moment. All in all, it was a fairly ridiculous waste of a great set of special effects and a no-nonsense cast. If you are bored out of your mind, then sure – this might entertain you. Otherwise, skip it.

Acting - OK 2.5

Yeah, that’s right. Despite having Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neil, Kaathleen Qinlan, Joely Richarson and even a very solid list of lesser-knowns, nothing could get past the inexplicable screen-play. But, I am giving them credit for trying hard.
