Summary - Great 4.0

My wife, Robin, and I both LOVED this movie. We felt that the Academy overlooked this film. It deserved a nomination for Best Picture, though I felt that “Her” was the best film of 2013. A great date movie, btw.

Acting - Great 4.0

Ben Stiller does some of his best work in this movie. Very understated acting. He holds his own on the screen with Sean Penn, not an easy task. Kristen Wiig continues to impress. She is capable of broad comedy and subtle realism. She’s super charming and totally believable as the love interest in this film.

The supporting cast was excellent throughout.

• Sean Penn was perfectly cast as the iconic rugged-go-it-alone photographer.
• Adam Scott was a great choice as the love-to-hate bully/villain. It was very satisfying to see Walter school him at the end of the movie.
• Shirley MacLaine as Walter’s mom – a real coup!

Film - Perfect 5.0

The production design of this film was very creative and beautiful. I found it mesmerizing. It was beautifully shot with gorgeous locations. Shot composition was excellent.

Edge - Tame 1.2

Reality - Surreal 2.3

The central premise is that Walter Mitty lives in a fantasy world. The transitions from fantasy to reality were seamless and beautifully executed.
