Rudy deserves a designation of prominence within the pantheon of classic sports movies. With its special message about the rewards of bull-headed perseverance, there is something to be learned by all ages who are lucky enough to come across this gem of a movie. It comes across as a bit unrealistic: a highly unlikely path to Notre Dame, a “5 foot nuthin’” kid taking hits from division 1 giants, and so on. But in the end, it doesn’t matter. Your feelings of pride and almost biblical (as Wick puts it) confirmation that “the meek shall inherit” take over and delivers great sports movie entertainment.
Great delivery from actors who become consistently really great in their careers. Led by Sean Astin of eventual Lord of the Rings fame, and accompanied by Jon Favreau, Ned Beatty, and Charles Dutton – this was a solid cast.
My ‘hardcore drama’ expectations got the better of me, but hey, it was made in 1993
