Ip Man is a great story of Kung Fu lineage and Chinese nationalism. Led by the sometimes comically cool Donnie Yen, mastery of the fight wins the day, and wins the hearts and minds of the people. Once the Japanese enter in to the story, the movie takes on more of the nationalistic flavor of countless Chinese movies that chronicle the Japanese wrong-doings, except in this case, the mastery of Yip Man is used as the catalyst to spur Chinese rebellion. In any case, it is cool to think that this is a semi-biography of a Wing Chun grand master, who got things started way before the likes of Bruce Lee. Great action and interesting story; well worth the subtitle-concentration necessary.
