BrianSez's Review

Summary - Really Great 4.5

Richard Linklater creates a classic with Boyhood, except it should really be called “Family-hood”, as the dynamics of the family were far more interesting than Mason’s (Eli Coltrane) or Samantha’s (Lorelai Linklater) perspectives alone. The story line is such Americana: divorced single mom (Patricia Arquette) who was too young to make a lasting manage which cool-dad (Ethan Hawke) and instead goes through a string of A-holes before the family settles in to maturity. The journey there creates a nostalgia for a history that isn’t too far in the past – I mean the 80’s and 90’s were not so long ago, right? Enjoy re-living some the great moments of growing up during what turned out to be a tremendous feel-good experience.

Acting - Great 4.0

Patricia Arquette gets the most of my kudos, but Ethan Hawke is so damn likeable in this film, his performance ranks right up there. Eli Coltrane and Lorelai Linklater definitely hold up well in this all around great cast.
