BrianSez's Review

Summary - Very Good 3.5

Mockingjay Part 1 officially turns The Hunger Games in to a futuristic war movie. Don’t get me wrong; I love war movies — Its just that the story-line has now morphed into something much more commonplace. Gone is the plight of the contestants – now replaced by the plight of the districts. The implementation of the latter is a very good crowd pleaser – with emotional speeches, stirring fight scenes, and of course the return of some of our Hunger Games favorites: First and foremost the lovely Katniss.

Acting - Very Good 3.5

It is going to be hard to tire of seeing Jennifer Lawrence; even with a subtly diminishing edge to her character. She’s still the uniquely shining light – but with each evolution of the series, you have to think about delivering more. Even the back-seat cast like Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks are adding new twists to their characters. That said, this cast is hard to beat. Donald Sutherland still does Asshole to a T and Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Julianne Moore pair up nicely as the rebel leaders.
