A must see for drummers and jazz fans, this movie will also please anyone who’s in for some good and tense drama. Miles Teller does a bang up job (pun intended) as the driven musician desperately trying to improve family and make it big. A little cheesy, but the antics are engrossing – so all is forgiven. J.K. Simmons is the real star as the asshole teacher that breaks musicians down so that they build themselves up again to be great in an NFL-like dog-eat-dog world where its always “next man up.” This comeback story was a bit of a sleeper, but very entertaining – so big thumbs up.
