A lavish Hitchcock treat, full of glamour, suspense and wit. The establishing scene is a virtuoso display of filmmaking all by itself, while Grace Kelly graces – there is no other word for it – the silver screen like a goddess amongst mortals.
Jimmy Stewart’s characteristic self-deprecation deftly lightens the mood, even as evidence of murder mounts in front of him, while Raymond Burr makes for a memorable heavy and Grace Kelly shows why she is one of the all time most beautiful movie queens.
Others may choose differently, but for this fan, Rear Window is as good as Hitchcock gets.
Yes, there is an apparent murder and dismemberment, but 1950s master Hitchcock delivers the goods without rubbing the film in gore.
Regarding BigdaddyDave’s Review
Terrific review BigD. I didn’t know about the apartment complex set built inside the sound stage before. Fascinating.
