BrianSez's Review

Summary - OK 2.5

The Field of Lost Shoes is a story about the 1864 corps of cadets (257 of them) at the Viginia Military Institute who were conscripted by Maj Gen John Breckinridge; They were supposed to be backups, but ended up being very necessary to turn back the Union armies. In the end, 10 were killed and 45 were wounded, and to this day VMI holds a ceremony every year to commemorate them. The term “Lost Shoes” comes from the fact that the field was a pit of mud, and many of the soldiers lost their shoes as they marched through.

About the movie? Meh. It didn’t do a very good job with the characters, and a love story that they tried to pull off was embarrassingly cheesy and unbelievable. The story went to great lengths to point out that a few of the corps were actually against slavery, and in fact history proves out that they participated in re-building the union.
